One single 18 inch sub under a pair of tops covers a room this size with room to spare. A single sub also keeps the load in small, which matters in a backyard where everything crosses a lawn. The trap at this size is the opposite of what people expect: it is rarely too little bass, it is a rig set too loud for a small space, which is why we set the level with someone standing at the far end of the room rather than at the mixer.

Two subs is the size most DFW receptions and corporate parties land on. Running a pair rather than one is about more than output. Two boxes placed together couple, which means the low end gets deeper and more even across the dance floor instead of loud in one spot and thin in another. This is also the point where the subs want their own circuit, and we advance that with the venue before the date rather than finding out at load in.

At this size the room is usually loud enough that the bass has to work through a crowd, and bodies absorb low end. Four subs across the front of a stage give a deep, even field rather than a hot spot in the middle. If the room is long, this is also where we start talking about where the tops go, because a typical pole mount reaches its limit once the vocal at the back has to compete with the kick.

Outdoors the low end rolls away into open air, so the number of boxes goes up quickly and the arrangement matters as much as the count. Under a covered pavilion this year, open on every side, a pair of DV12s built for outdoor use held a wedding dance floor full to the last song. Subs can be stacked in a block, spread across the stage front or arranged so the bass stays on the crowd and off the neighbors. That last one comes up more than people think in Dallas, and it is worth planning before a noise complaint plans it for you. Larger events also move to line array speakers on top.

Guest count is only half the sizing question. A jazz trio and a dubstep set with the same hundred people in the room want very different low end, because in one the bass supports the music and in the other the bass is the music. For those genres we either add subs or move to a bigger box rather than pushing a small rig harder, since a sub that is working at its limit stops sounding deep and starts sounding compressed. What those genres want is impact that stays clean at level, rather than a small rig pushed harder.

Most of the subwoofer rentals we run in Dallas are for a DJ, and DJs want the same three things: enough low end that the floor fills, a system that is already tuned when they arrive, and someone else responsible for the power. That is what a full-service rental is. We load in ahead of your call time, place and tune the rig, and stay with it, so your soundcheck is plugging in and hearing it work.
We can supply the whole system or just the low end. If you already own tops and only need subs underneath them, we will match the crossover and gain to your boxes on site rather than handing you a rig and a guess. If you are bringing your own controller, it plugs into our system the same way. If you need decks as well, we also handle CDJ and DJ equipment rental, so the whole booth arrives on one truck.
Mobile DJs book this page more than anyone else, and the reason is plain and practical: the whole rig is ours to run. A powered sub has its amplifier and processing built in, which is fewer boxes in the van and one less rack between the music and the room.

The DV12 is the top box that goes above the subs on most of our jobs. It carries vocals and music cleanly at distance and keeps its pattern controlled, so a long room sounds the same at the back as at the front. It scales with the sound unchanged: one for a small room, a pair for most receptions, four in a 2x2 arrangement when a room is wide. Because it is powered, adding a box means adding a box, not rebuilding an amp rack.

The SSP118 is the sub we rent most, and it is the one we mean when we say one sub or two subs above. A single 18 inch box that reaches deeper and holds level better than a typical rental sub of the same size, which usually means fewer boxes on the truck for the same result in the room. It is also the easiest sub here to scale: start with one, add a second when the room grows, and you get more impact with the character of the low end intact.

A single 21 inch driver moves considerably more air than an 18, and the VS21 uses it for two things at once: it goes deeper, and it keeps the transient impact that makes a kick drum feel physical rather than just loud. That combination is why it is our default when the booking is a club night, a bass heavy DJ set or a band with a serious rhythm section. It stays musical when it is being pushed instead of pumping audibly.

A concert is its own job. It has an input list, a stage plot, a support act, a changeover and someone whose whole job is monitors. When a promoter or a band asks us for a concert sound system in Dallas, what they are really asking for is a rig that holds up at show level for four hours and a crew who has run a changeover before. The BASSBOSS boxes described above are what we build that rig from.
The low end is where most rented concert systems fall down, because they are sized for the room and not for the crowd. A room absorbs very little; five hundred people absorb a great deal. We size the sub count against the crowd and the genre, arrange the boxes so the bass lands on the audience rather than the back of the stage, and keep headroom in hand so the system is loafing during the headliner. On a typical festival stage that headroom is the difference between impact and distortion by the third act.

Club and rave sound system rental
Dallas has a real underground scene, and the rooms it happens in were built for something else. Warehouses, empty retail units, patios, art spaces and rooms with a concrete floor and a metal ceiling all share the same acoustics: enormous reflections and bass that runs free. A rig that sounds enormous at the door can be unlistenable in the middle of the floor, and adding volume makes it worse rather than better.
Warehouse and open shell rooms
Hard walls send everything back at you. We aim the tops down onto the crowd instead of across the room, keep the subs off the corners where they load up, and accept a slightly lower level for a much deeper one. Bass in a warehouse comes from arrangement, not from turning it up.
Club installs and takeovers
Plenty of DFW venues have a house system that is fine for a bar night and short for a headliner. We can supplement the house rig with subs and tops for the night, then take it back out, so the venue keeps its install and the promoter gets the show they sold.
Neighbors, curfews and complaints
