Most of our weddings run into the night. This one started with lunch. The couple held their reception midday at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch, on the Dye course in McKinney, in a room with a balcony that looks out over the fairways and a pond. They wanted a full dance floor anyway, in daylight, with a room that still looked and sounded like a celebration.

Building the room for a daytime reception

Daylight changes the lighting plan. We set uplighting around the reception room to put color on the walls, and put the couple’s custom monogram up on the wall so it was the first thing guests saw walking in.

Sound was our DJ package: a pair of BassBoss DV12 tops on tripods and a BassBoss SSP118 subwoofer underneath. That rig gives a lunch crowd clear, even sound at the tables while the meal is going, then has the low end ready for the dance floor. Our DJ ran the party from a Pioneer XDJ-AZ set up facing the room, so every cue was taken with eyes on the guests.

Toasts and the microphones

Toasts went through Shure wireless microphones running through our AI-powered De-Feedback system, which keeps toasts clear of feedback even when someone wanders toward the speakers. Every toast carried to the back tables.

A choreographed performance with live drums

A highlight of the afternoon was a choreographed dance by a group of international performers, with live drums.

Dancing on the Clouds for the first dance

For the first dance we brought Dancing on the Clouds, the low-lying dry ice effect that covers the floor and stays down around the couple’s feet. With the golf course in the windows behind them and the monogram on the wall, it made for the photo of the day.

Pop, country and a full dance floor

The music was a mix of pop and country, and the guests were on the floor early and stayed there all afternoon. By the time the country songs came on, the bride had changed into a short dress and cowboy boots and was out front with the wedding party. Lots of dancing and good vibes from the first song to the last.
